Natural bridges of Rakov Škocjan
Right before the town of Rakek I came across some fields unevely lit by sunshine. And there were white puffy clouds. :)
Daisies.
More daisies.
Field of daisies.
Big natural bridge of Rakov Škocjan. Does it look big?
In this photo it actually looks dwarfed by the trees. Or does it?
Well, the arch is 37 meters high.
On the other side of the bridge the dry river bed becomes more prominent with big, moss-covered stones.
Heading down the dry river bed towards Tkalca Cave.
After the rain there's a lot of water in the river.
The entrance to the Tkalca cave, which is almost 3 kilometers long.
Again, it is NOT small.
The entrance chamber is enormous.
Tkalca Cave.
Looking out from the Tkalca Cave.
In front of the Tkalca Cave the moss on the stones wasn't dark, it was bright green as it was above the usual water level.
The arch of the small natural bridge is actually higher than the big one, but the bridge itself is thinner.
It's a long way down if you fall over the fence.
There is a steep path leading into the cave system beneath the small bridge.
It's darker than the photo makes you believe.
Reflections.
Reflections.
Looking back to where we came from.
Entrance to the underworld.
A small footbridge.
There are flowers growing in the cave.
I'm not sure you can walk through this tunnel when the waters are high.
From inside the tunnel.
Reflections.
Under the small natural bridge.
Looking up.
Looking straight up. Feel dizzy yet? :)
Later, I went to the nearby Lake Cerknica to see the sunset and take a couple of pictures.
The sun was just setting.
Dry bottom of the lake and Mt. Slivnica in the background.
Waiting for the rain.
