In and around Naples, Italy
First, we took a stroll through the center of Naples. This is Galleria Umberto I.
Then we headed to Piazza Plebiscito, dominated by Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola.
The church is embraced with twin arcades.
The interior resembles Rome's Pantheon.
Another view of the arcades.
The piazza was full of pigeons.
The inner corridor of the arcades.
Two policemen with horses.
Stairway leading to the National Library.
The following morning, the sky looked menacing.
The waves were crashing against the shore.
The beach promenade.
Our first stop of the sight-seeing tour was Herculaneum, an ancient town, which was buried when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.
The inner chambers of a typical house.
There were many mosiacs.
The floor of a bathroom.
An imaginary garden.
Not much grass for a garden, huh?
Another interior.
By noon, the skies cleared and Vesuvius came into view.
A narrow street in Ercolano.
On the way to the top of Vesuvius.
Looking down into the crater.
Vesuvius is an active volcano - many fumaroles around.
The view from the top towards the coast.
Porous, volcanic stones.
The mansion where the festival was held.
Dramatic skies at sunset.
The arcades and the evening sky.
The sunset light.
Can you tell I really liked these arcades? :)
The light was so warm...
... and the sunset was quite dramatic.
After the sunset.
The hall where the concerts took place.
A Jordanian choir performing.
The arcades again - at night.
I liked the tiled floor.

A decrepit building in a resort town close to Naples.
A view of Sorrento, a lovely coastal town south of Naples.
Cliffs.
There's barely any room for buildings close to the shore.
Vesuvius across the bay.
Sorrento port.
The main piazza in Sorrento.
One of the busiest streets.
There was an old, disused mill in a gorge in the middle of Sorrento, and these are the steps that used to lead to it.
The old mill.
The mill from another perspective.
After we left Sorrento, the skies above the horizon started to clear up.
Reflection on the surface of the sea.
Cliffs and sunset.
A night view of Naples.
Naples and the coast by night.
An illuminated garden at the restaurant where we ate the night before we left Naples.
Another play of light and water.
