On the third day we first climbed Kalska gora, which is a perfect lookout point as the whole Kamnik Alps lie before you. The climb to Kalski greben had one hair-raising section with a ten-meter drop, partly overhanging. Yay! :) The hike on a pleasant, gentle slope towards Skrbina wasn't tiring, which can't be said for the final descent to Planina Dolga njiva and Krvavec. On the whole, it was a beautiful traverse with gorgeous vistas and I can only recommend it.

After spending the night at the Kamnik Saddle hut we crossed the Brana slope, climbed over Kotlici to Turska gora, and then enjoyed the steep rock faces of Skuta and the ridge of Dolgi hrbet. In late afternoon we stood on top of Grintovec, the highest peak in the Kamnik Alps (2558 m). The long hike ended at the Kokra Saddle hut.

My friend Sandi and I traversed the whole range of the Kamnik Alps in three days, conquering all major peaks on the way. Day 1 was marked by dramatic clouds and fog around Mt. Ojstrica and Planjava.

To break in my new hiking shoes I decided for a quick climb to Mt. Brana (2253 m). The weather wasn't really promising, but at least rain wasn't forecast. I hiked to Kamnisko sedlo, climbed Brana and had a delicious jota on return. The descent was also fast, almost running, and I was back home by 1 p.m. The hiking shoes didn't hurt much, just my heels blistered a bit.

Yes, another hike to Kamniski vrh. :) I was already late and wild sunset colors distracted me for another 15 minutes at the top. It was really dark on my way back down to the car. In the forest I literally had to feel the path with my hiking poles. :) I have to start taking my headlamp with me.

The weather in September has been terrible. Rain, even snow in the mountains. And I was hoping to do some serious hiking. Well, there's always Kamniski vrh. I climbed it twice last week, once in sunshine and once with ominous clouds over my head.

My friend Jaka and I made a quick decision to make the best of a great weather forecast and spend two days hiking in the Julian Alps. Starting in the Krnica valley we climbed the Kriska stena face and Mt. Kriz, and spent the night at Kriski podi. Day 2 was marked by an injured knee, so we took the shorter trail than intended to the Vrsic pass.
