Hiking in the Košuta area
Early in the morning, I drove to Planina Šija at about 1400 meters above sea level. The area is one big pasture.
This range above was my destination.
I left the car and started climbing towards my first peak, Kofce gora.
The views from the trail towards the south revealed the Kamnik Alps in the distance and smog in the valleys.
On my right, the highest peak I was going to climb that day, Kladivo, could be seen.
Panoramic view.
The crest of the whole range is also the border. Here I was, standing with one foot in Slovenia and with the other in Austria.
The trail from Kofce gora to the next peak, Kladivo.
Here you can see the nature of the whole range: grassy on the Slovenian side and steep and rocky on the Austrian side.
Soon I was standing on top of Kladivo at 2094 meters above sea level.
Even Triglav, Slovenian highest mountain, could be seen in the distance.
Looking down to Planina Šija.
Another panorama from the top of Kladivo.
I only met a few other mountaineers and was surprised that the nice weather didn't attract more people.
The rest of the range to the east. The last peak on the left is the Košutnikov turn, the highest mountain in Košuta range.
Tiny red flowers.
I had to descend to a small saddle in the crest from where a trail forked off to the valley.
Planina Šija and Pungrat below.
A slightly different panorama. :)
Trees and a track.
How this old tree roots got up here is a mystery to me.
A fish? ;)
Detail in wood.
Diagonal.
A blaze on a rock.
Red flowers up-close.
Grass and heather.
Views back towards where I came from.
Here I took the trail leading down to the valley.
Getting close to my starting point.
After the hike, I took a detour returning home. I explored some dirt roads in the area, and from here I could actually see the mountain range I had just climbed.
Backlit grass.
